Gameplay was revolutionary for its time yet still simple enough to be able to pick up and play. Simple economy (one resource, only need to take care of electricity) meant that you could focus on building your base and army, and the action was quick to come. The games had an interesting storyline with memorable characters and a fine balance of serious vs goofy. So, what were your memories of the C&C games? Were they really good or is it just my nostalgia speaking? What was the strategy factor in those games, and what in your opinion, made those games good?ĮDIT Alright! Plenty of good responses, thank you all! So far, this seems to be the general consensus: This made me feel like I was looking at the entire series through nostalgia googles. When I tried the same strategy in Starcraft, for example, I failed horribly. Looking back it seems like there was very little strategy involved in what was IMO one of the fathers of the real time strategy genre. However, what I also remember is basically playing each and every game the same way - waiting in my base, building heavy tanks / mammoth tanks / Titans and swarming the enemy base. One of my oldest gaming memories is watching my brother ion cannon the original temple of Nod, and I've played every single one of those games well into my later years, excluding the terrible C&C4.
